See "Introduction" at bottom. =:-} VersaCAD reFerence Files Who knew? I didn't, that's for sure :( I was exploring VersaCAD's reFerence file capability and discovered: 1. You can have multiple reFerence (children) files in one drawing (parent) 2. If you turn off levels in a child drawing, that is honored in the parent drawing into which it is referenced - cool. If, for example, you turn off level 7 in the child darwing, when reFerenced into a parent drawing (whose level 7 is ON), those Objects on the child drawing level 7 do NOT display!. If fact, if you Explode the reFerence child in the parent, only those visible object will show. This is "sort-a kind-a" likefreezing layers on a per viewport basis in AutoCAD AND THEN! bind the xref's for easy 'downstream' distribution to others. 3. You can Filer reFerence a drawing which in turns has references of its own. I don't know about Microstation, but in A-CAD this is called nested Xrefs. What makes this so interesting? For me, I had gotten use to AutoCAD's ability to Xref AND to (with a little 'creative use' of layers) display different layer visibilities on a per viewport basis. Now VersaCAD does not to viewports, however, with a little effort, Filer's reFerence ability and a little imagination make for a useable workaround that synthnesizes "Viewports" It's ture - I guess you are never to old to learn! You make use of reFerence files in VersaCAD? Sure would like to see your comments if you do, and how yoy might make use of this feature.. Posted by: versacad at July 03, 2004 04:54 |
